Summary
As a Planning Engineer, you will take up a key position in the project manager’s dynamic core team for one or more of our large-scale multi-disciplinary Waste-to-energy EPC projects. From your early involvement in the proposal stage, and throughout the project execution stage, your expertise in setting up a robust project planning, and your pro-active coordination with internal and external stakeholders to keep the project on track, are of crucial importance to the successful realization of our projects’ objectives. Furthermore, from within the Project and Proposal Department, you will contribute to the continuous development and improvement of our Project Centric Organization, focusing on identifying lessons, best practices, and improving our planning approach in all its relevant aspects through company-wide initiatives.
About this position
Functionally reporting to the Project Planning Manager, and within the project context to the Project Manager, this role involves creating and overseeing detailed project plans. You will be responsible to set-up the project baseline planning, for integrating the plans of suppliers, partners, and subcontractors into the overall project schedule, as well as standardizing documentation and improving workflows. Your work will be central to the efficient management of resources and the successful delivery of our major projects.

This is what you will do

Within the project context

Establish project baseline planning with internal and external parties, covering the entire project lifecycle (Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Delivery, Construction, Commissioning, Testing, and Take-over).

Participate in constructability meetings and, with construction staff, translate methods and concepts into a logical sequence and phasing in the planning.

Draft the Project Planning and Scheduling Procedure as part of the Project Execution Plan.

Set up progress measurement methods with Project Controls to determine the project’s POC (percentage of completion) figures and indices.

Work proactively with the project team to ensure the planning stays on track and notify of any deviations.

Conduct analyses to determine schedule risk and optimization potential, proposing alternative actions or recovery for slipped schedules.

Develop record-keeping approaches to capture events impacting the schedule, assisting the Commercial Manager in evaluating or drafting claims related to schedule changes.

Assist the project management team in drafting periodic status reports to keep company management informed on project status, progress, changes, and risks.

Within the project-centric organization

Assist the Head of Project Management in compiling and monitoring resource planning at the corporate project portfolio level, ensuring optimal resource allocation and utilization.

Identify weaknesses, lessons learned, best practices, and new developments related to scheduling, proposing implementation strategies.

Actively participate in improving workflows, interactions, tools, and methods related to the company’s standard project approach, focusing on the standard Project Planning and Scheduling Procedure.

Collaborate with the Project Cost Controller to integrate controls of time, cost, and scope.

Skills and abilities
Must Haves

Proficiency in planning software (Primavera P6, MS Project, OPC) and PC skills.

Experience as a planner on construction site

Education and Experience

Industrial Engineer or Bachelor’s degree with a clear interest in technology and logistics

Several years of experience in a similar position, preferably in an industrial environment. Experience with assembly methods is a significant asset.
Languages
Must possess a good working knowledge of English; proficiency in French is highly valued.
